Sample Daily Schedule

Below is a general outline of a three-hour session in the AM or PM. Depending on the season and group dynamic these times are flexible. Our aim is to learn and be in nature to cultivate a deep inquiry into your child's interest and to build strong nature connections over time.

Meeting Time

We begin our time together outside our winter tent located on the SW corner of the property of Le Nichoir in Hudson. Parents are welcome to join or drop off. The first hour children spend time exploring different areas of the forest and spaces engaging while greeting other children. We slowly gather inside the tent into a formal meeting circle where we might sing a welcome song, or a story, or share how we are feeling and what we are excited or curious about for our time together in the forest.

**Please ensure your child brings a healthy snack and a water bottle,  and is dressed ready to play with nature and handle the weather!

Play Time

The next hours we spend getting to know each other, our environment and ourselves through sensory awareness games, purposeful skill-building, and exploratory time moving and discovering nature. The child is seen as the center of learning and our teachers engage with their interests, guiding and engaging with them through play. Choices are offered to encourage role play, games, social interactions, and language development. We will take time in the tent to warm up, and then head back outside to play!

Our program connects with primary program principles from the Quebec Ministry of EducationForest School CanadaReggio Emelia Approaches, and from the International Baccalaureate Organization.

Closing Time

We bring grounding and calmness to close our time together with time spent in silent reflection. Each child chooses a space alone to observe and notice nature and time to quietly reflect on their day. Children have the option to draw or journal their reflections. We end with a formal closing circle inside the tent and the opportunity for each child to share their favourite moments, and a word of thankfulness and we close together in a song or story. Parents can meet us back at our meeting space by the tent at Le Nichoir.

Please be on time!

*If your child spends the full day with us, please pack a lunch (maybe something warm) and an extra snack. To respect food allergies we are a nut-free environment and discourage the sharing of food.
