Colton Reed
Forest Play Teacher
Colton Reed, a passionate violist and violinist, was born and raised in Hudson, Quebec, where his love for music began at a young age. Early on, he performed as a soloist with "I Musici de Montréal" and earned top prizes at national competitions, setting the stage for a lifelong musical journey.
While pursuing his formal studies at the University of Ottawa, Colton discovered a deep connection to the viola through chamber music, eventually co-founding the sibling trio "Reeds on Strings". The group toured internationally, performing in Austria and across Canada, and was awarded the Grand Prix du Festival at Concours Classival.
With degrees in Viola Performance and a strong commitment to his craft, Colton has performed in orchestras, chamber ensembles, and solo recitals, and continues to teach and mentor young musicians. His recent work with "OrKidstra and the Ottawa Symphony" reflects his passion for music as a tool for community building and accessible education.
Beyond the stage, Colton’s interests in ethnomusicology, sustainability, and accessible teaching reflect his deep commitment to community and to connecting music with broader cultural and social landscapes. We first met Colton while volunteering together at Heartbeet Farm and felt an instant connection—to both him and the soil.
A nature enthusiast and advocate for children’s play as a path to creativity and nature connection, Colton brings warmth, artistry, and curiosity to all he does. We are so excited to welcome him into the Hudson Forest Play Team.
